Dr Mattias Vesterlund

Biography

Mattias leads many research projects as a senior researcher at the datacenter research facility in Luleå, in the very north of Sweden. His main research focus is the utilization and upgrading of datacenter excess heat and its environmental impacts. Mattias received an M.Sc. in Energy Systems and a Ph.D. in energy technologies, awarded in 2017, which looked at district heating systems in order to optimize operation and network expansion of meshed networks.

Mattias also holds a position as adjunct lecturer at the division of energy science in the field of energy technologies at the Luleå University of Technology, where he is also an assistant supervisor for Ph.D. students studying the data center excess heat generation for industrial symbiosis and the circular economy.
