John O’Shea

Energy Systems Analyst
Codema, Dublin’s Energy Agency
Biography
John has worked in the areas of district energy, energy masterplanning, technoeconomic analysis, and sustainable business case development since 2013. He also has expertise in the design and hydraulic analysis of district heating networks, industrial energy auditing, large-scale district cooling thermo-dynamic analysis, building energy regulation compliance, and energy strategy (across Europe, the US and the Middle East). During this period John developed specialist knowledge in many heating, cooling and electricity generating technologies.
Since joining Codema in early 2018 John has primarily worked on the Interreg NWE South Dublin District Heating pilot project; providing technical advice, partaking in stakeholder engagement, developing procurement strategy and implementation, and performing whole life cost benefit analysis for the proposed DH system. This innovative system seeks to utilise low-temperature waste heat from a data centre to feed a large-scale heat pump and supply space heating and hot water to a cluster of nearby public and residential buildings in its initial phases. John is also responsible for the development of a heat source map and Transition Roadmap for South Dublin, to aid the identification and development of further district heating opportunities in the South Dublin region.
