Biography
With a BSc in Physics and Chemistry, an MSc in Carbon Management and more than 10 years working across energy technologies including CHP, CCGT, renewables and demand side response, Jon joined Electricity Exchange in 2020.
Having previously managed a 40 MW Demand Side Unit in the Irish energy markets for Veolia, Jon is experienced enabling on-site generation assets (CHP units, standby diesel generators, etc.) to participate in DS3 grid balancing services, the capacity market, and other value pools, as well as using grid services revenues to underpin the business case for new projects such as battery storage.
Jon’s current role at Electricity Exchange is focussed on leading market operations both in the Irish market, where the company operates a >130 MW demand response portfolio providing a range of services including fast acting frequency response, and in abroad as the company enters new markets as part of its international expansion strategy.
Jon’s background is principally focussed on conventional power generation, combined heat and power (CHP) technologies and on-site / behind-the-meter power generation projects. For the 5 years from 2014 – 2019 Jon specialised in the development of bespoke CHP plants supplying steam and power to UK industrial customers, including responsibility for all aspects of technical concept development, project commercial evaluation, customer presentations and contract negotiations.
Outside the office, Jon is passionate about sailing, including volunteering with sail training organisations in both the UK and Ireland focussed on developing and inspiring underprivileged young people, as well as organising sailing trips with family & friends.
