David McAuley

David has worked with Industry and government over the past decade to address the growing challenge of energy use and associated climate change. His roles with Ireland’s National Energy Agency (SEAI) included promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. By providing leadership and a focal point for stakeholders, David has become a recognised national expert in the practical application of energy solutions. Now, as an entrepreneur, David is developing solutions to maximise efficiency at the design stage of energy-using projects, offering assurance to investors that their investments will stand up to future scrutiny.David has an interest in the growing world of information, and how it can help to optimise resource use. The challenge of balancing IT/Comms/Data energy use with sustainability and CSR objectives will require strong leadership. David has assisted many large organisations with defining, implementing, and publicising their sustainability strategies. The data industry can benefit from closer ties with the power sector – both are evolving at a rapid pace.

While collaborating with government agencies (IDA, Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland) and policymakers (Department of Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources and Department of Jobs & Innovation), David also represented Ireland as national delegate to the EU Commission’s “Horizon 2020” Energy committee from 2009 – 2015, helping to focus EU and Irish Research & Development efforts towards a sustainable economy. In 2015, David helped to transpose the EU Energy Efficiency Directive into Irish energy policy through a series of practical programmes which will help achieve Ireland’s 2020 climate goals.

From 1997 to 2006, David worked in a number of engineering roles in the pharmaceutical and electronics sector in Ireland. These included delivering large-scale factory construction projects and managing FDA regulated facilities. David studied Mechanical Engineering at DIT, has a Batchelor of Engineering Degree from the University of Ireland (TCD), and is an Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager.
